Helen married in 1946 just before her 20th birthday and then received “the present” of her two sons in her 21st year, one at the beginning and one at the end.
“When they were ready to go to university, I went too, we used to study and share notes together… I was good friends with my boys”.
In the last three years she has lost her husband, one of her sons and her sister.
“A woman’s life was very much about looking after someone else… and I now feel un-needed… life goes on and you just get on with it and be thankful for what you have got.”
